Don’t do it. I don’t even know how this is called a Marriott. We wanted be close to airport but you’re better off booking in the city and leaving earlier for the airport. So gross and dirty. Stains on bed. Pool not open. Everything dusty and smells.

After spending 14 days traveling around Italy it was great to arrive at the Marriott Park Hotel in Rome. The room was nice and very comfortable. There was even a full-size tub! We had a lovely dinner and breakfast before leaving for the airport the next morning.

There were some definite hit and miss moments at this hotel. Pros for the hotel are its location to the Rome International Airport and its reasonable priced. Check-in at the hotel was smooth and the person who checked us in was friendly and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He also took the time to answer all of our questions that we had at that time. During our checkin process we received an upgrade on our room due to status with Marriott. Thank you Marriott/staff for the upgrade as it is always appreciated. Our room was spacious and perfectly fine, so no complaints there. The hotel seems oriented towards conference as it has a huge lobby area and a number of conference rooms. After checking in, we went to the bar area, located next to the restaurant. As it was after 3 pm, the restaurant had just closed, however, we were told ordering food from the bar area was very similar to the food that would be served at the restaurant. We decided to take advantage of the free drink offer they gave us during checkin and ordered lunch. I ordered the margherita pizza and my wife ordered the smoked salmon sandwich and potato chips. While the wine and my wife's sandwich were fine, her potato chips were crushed in little pieces. The potato chips were definitely not a deal breaker but were definitely a poor reflection on the bar/service. Now the margherita pizza I ordered happened to be one of the worst pizza's I have ever had in my life. This had to be a frozen pizza, possibly shipped in from the US, as I can't imagine anyone in Italy making such garbage. Parts of the pizza seemed to still be frozen, tasted like cardboard and the sauce had absolutely no taste. If I hadn't been so hungry I would have tossed the pizza in the nearest garbage can. It was laughable to be in Italy and actually be served the worst pizza ever....thank goodness I still had favorable memories of the pizzas we were served in Naples and the surrounding areas. Anyhow, pro tip, whatever you do, do not order the margherita pizza from this hotel The executive lounge is located downstairs and they had a decent happy hour/hor dourves. Note, make sure you get to the lounge early for the happy hour(s) as the tables/chairs fill up fast. The free flowing wine was available for four hours, so no complaints there. The hotel is conveniently located approximately 25 minutes from the Rome International Airport. The hotel also has a shuttle that will take you from the hotel to the airport. The catch? The shuttle only leaves once a day at 6:30 am. Breakfast starts at 6:30 am. We choose to go to breakfast instead of taking the shuttle.....our mistake. The breakfast in the lounge was almost nonexistent and no staff was present. At first we thought that perhaps we were early but after waiting for a bit realized this was all they had for breakfast.....very poor, so we left. Pro tip, if it's a close call, take the shuttle to the airport at 6 euro per person instead of taking a taxi that will cost you 31 euro. We didnt even try to take the shuttle into the downtown Rome area so I can't comment on whether or not that is a worthwhile endeavor. Anyhow, as noted, the hotel is reasonably priced, relatively close to the airport and they had free flowing wine during happy hour(s). Aside from that, there weren't a lot of positive things to note about this hotel.

Exceptional service but no pool or spa available

Given increasing temperatures are the new normal, may I ask that the seasonal pool is opened on 1st, instead of 30th, April? - especially when the spa is not open and there are no nature walks easily accessible. The fitness centre is clean and well stocked but it’s just not the same as exercise, ‘al fresco’ in this wonderful country. The location of this hotel is frustratingly remote - “Roma” is as much of a stretch as saying Emperor Nero was just a bit grumpy! The pay-as-you-go hotel shuttle offers limited services, so budget 50-80 Euros daily for taxis if you plan to visit the city and its surrounds. O.K., whinging aside… Staff and available services are FANTASTICO! Much appreciated is the staff’s willingness to patiently accommodate my attempts to improve my Italian, despite the fact they all speak such superb English (and a myriad of other languages I’m sure!). The hotel restaurant is fabulous - not the usual last resort of weary travellers - shout out to Tiziano and the rest of the tireless hospitality crew. Menus offer the broadest array of gluten-free options found thus far (aside from a GF specific pizzeria in Arezzo) and sampling Carbonara and Cacio e pepe in its home territory, without the burden of tummy pain, was very special for me. BEHOLD! The sumptuous breakfast buffet and impeccable attention to waiting on your every need (whether you think you need it or not!) but remember to pre-book so breakfast costs 15 Euros instead of 30! Air-conditioning is effective with the option to open windows and the mattress is the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on - a balcony would’ve made for the perfect hotel room! Wifi is fast and stable too. Designers could really make more of the patio adjacent to the restaurant via sun shades offering the chance to work and relax opposite the pretty, countryside views - this could really amplify the space and elevate guest experiences. Overall, however, this hotel bears no resemblance to the dive described in older reviews - it has clearly undergone a glow-up in standards. Congrats to the team that took this place in hand and made it into an Italian monument worth visiting :)
